We love keeping in touch with our Old Twyfordians and hearing about the many ways they continue to shine, whether on the sports field, on stage, in the classroom, or through creative pursuits. It is a constant pleasure to see the remarkable paths our former pupils take and the achievements they go on to enjoy.
We are especially delighted to celebrate members of our 2021 cohort, now in Upper Sixth, who are already making such a strong impact through leadership at their senior schools.
We are incredibly proud that the current Heads of both Winchester College and Radley College are Old Twyfordians.
Arthur James-Duff, Winchester's Senior Commoner Prefect, and Ben de Laszlo, Radley's Senior Prefect, are thriving in their respective roles, and it is wonderful to see how the foundations laid at Twyford have supported them as they take on these significant responsibilities.
This year group also boasts many other impressive examples of school leadership and kindness, with several pupils serving as Heads of House, including Tommy Lott at Marlborough College, Hugo Jenkins at Radley, and Max Jackson at Winchester College. Their achievements are a testament to the values they carry forward and we look forward to following their continued success.
Ben reflects on his time spent at Twyford:
"Twyford allowed me to develop two things specifically that have helped me at Radley, not only to start but more general skills that have been useful throughout my time here.
The first is self-confidence, especially with respect to public speaking. The Shakespeare performance at the end of Year 8 made me realise public speaking/perfoming in front of an audience can be as enjoyable as it is daunting, pushing me to start debating at Radley and fortunately resulting in winning a National Championship last year.
The second was a real sense of academic curiosity for its own sake. Participation in competitions like SATIPS general knowledge and the Townsend Warner History prize incentivised intellectual engagement beyond the curriculum, and being lucky enough to enjoy reasonable success in those competitions only rewarded that curiosity. This is something that's stood me in good stead throughout my time at Radley, especially as Oxford applications have demanded significant attention on the supercurricular."
Arthur added:
"Looking back on it, my time at Twyford provided strong foundations for a successful career at Winchester. Enthusiastic and approachable teachers fostered both a genuine interest in my subjects and the confidence to engage comfortably with adults, while the competitive house system offered an early sense of the tight-knit community and spirit that defines life at Winchester."
Please do contact Charlotte and let us know of your successes and exciting plans, we warmly welcome everyone's news.
