We are delighted to share that Twyford has won the category for Best of the Best “Great for Music” in the Week Independent Schools Guide which has just been announced in their March publication.
“Twyford, a co-ed, day and weekly boarding prep near Winchester, has a deserved reputation for the excellence of its music provision. Music is on the timetable from nursery all the way through to year 8; ukulele and recorder are taught to all from year 2 and over 75% of pupils go on to learn other instruments including harp and bagpipes. Two school choirs, singing groups, an orchestra plus various instrumental ensembles give pupils plenty of opportunities to play and sing. Parents are invited to lunchtime recitals – a great way to build confidence – in addition to whole school concerts and other musical productions. Twyford’s ten-year partnership with nearby opera venue, The Grange, gives pupils the unique opportunity to take part in professional performances – most recently Verdi’s Macbeth.”
An additional feature in this publication was “Brilliant biographies and mesmorising memoirs” where librarians and teachers from schools across the UK recommended exciting reads to inform, inspire and entertain children and teenagers. Our own Mr Lafferty’s entry was one of the titles chosen; Adventures in Time: The Six Wives of Henry VII by Dominic Sandbrook.
