We recently welcomed back Old Twyfordian Mr Peter Loveday and his wife, Sarah. Peter attended Twyford from 1945, as the Second World War was ending, and left to attend Winchester College in 1950. He came to visit Andrew Keeling, our resident Archivist, and to see his exhibition exploring the roles of Old Twyfordians in action in Europe in 1944, in which his uncle Lt Col John Loveday features. Peter's younger brother Mark also followed him to the school.
Peter reminisced about his five years here under Bob Wickham as Headmaster and was fascinated to see the increased scale of the school now with the new classroom blocks, playing fields, astroturf, the new boarding house in Orchard Close as well as the new Year 7 classrooms occupying what had been his dormitories. He remembered assisting Bob Wickham to mix concrete for the footings of a new handicrafts room being built in 1947, and saw the plaque showing where the building stood until 1999.
